Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. In 1981 began working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She participated as a member of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a range of notable stories, including arms control the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell was frequently with the president Reagan to meetings alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
